Megan Briggs, Scottish Ladies’ Amateur Champion in 2009 and member of Scotland’s Home International-winning team in 2010, has another reason to celebrate – this time off the course – by gaining an LLB degree from the University.
The Strathclyde student gained a 2:1 in her Law degree and as well as her Scottish individual and UK team titles, she was West of Scotland Ladies’ Champion in 2008 and 2010, Scottish Foursomes Champion in 2009 with her sister, Eilidh, and won a bronze medal with Scotland at the European Team Championship in 2010.
And Megan is looking forward to the future. “There’s been a lot of work involved in studying Law and competing in golf at the same but the Elite Athlete Programme and the Alumni Fund have been a great support and I have been able to change essay deadlines and exam dates when they have clashed with tournaments.
“Getting a 2:1 in my Law degree has been my highlight at Strathclyde, along with becoming the University’s Sportswoman of the Year in 2011. I’ve applied to come back next year to do my diploma and then hope to do a law firm traineeship with MacRoberts.
“In golf, I don’t have plans to turn professional. I am happy to continue to play amateur golf for Scotland and, hopefully in the future, Great Britain.”
