Following the conclusion of an extended international break, another weekend of football in the William Hill Championship and League 1 promises to provide fans with the same action they have enjoyed for nearly three weeks while the Premiership has been at a standstill.
William Hill Championship
Inverness CT vs Stenhousemuir – Undoubtedly the story of the season so far, Marvin Bartley’s high-flying Stenny look to extend both their long unbeaten run and their position at the top of the table as they make the long trip up to face fellow newly-promoted Inverness. After a poor start, the Highlanders are now unbeaten in their last three, and will prove a tough task for the surprise league leaders.
Arbroath vs Greenock Morton – Morton’s recent struggles both on and off the pitch have been well publicised, as they look to pick up their first win of the season following last week’s dismissal of manager Ian Murray. Moreover, Gayfield Park is a notoriously difficult place to go at the best of times, and Morton will make the trip to the North Sea town of Arbroath desperate to avoid another dose of Saturday afternoon misery.
Livingston vs Partick Thistle – A meeting of the two sides deemed favourites for promotion back in August, the season hasn’t gone quite to plan for either club. Respectively sitting fourth and third going into the match, three points feels almost necessary for both managers to keep the pressure on Stenhousemuir, who sit five points clear of second-placed Raith Rovers, with a game in hand.
Without a televised Friday night game, the full bill of five Saturday afternoon kick-offs is made up by Raith Rovers vs Queen’s Park and Ayr United vs Dunfermline Athletic. The struggling Spiders will visit Starks’ Park to face a Rovers side full of confidence, while both Gary Naysmith and Neil Lennon will look to grab three points for their sides in a season which has seen both Ayr and Dunfermline unable to find any real vein of form.
William Hill League 1
East Kilbride vs Airdrieonians – The Diamonds can set a new club record for consecutive victories if they pick up another three points against Mick Kennedy’s play-off hopefuls. After a terrible start to the season, John Rankin has turned Airdrie’s form on its head, as a win can take them within one point of their third-placed opponents.
Montrose vs Ross County – Still sitting within the play-off positions, the home side have started their season in a solid manner, but their usually rigid defence will be put to the test by a County side flying high at the top of the table. Coming off the back of a record-breaking 14-0 victory in the KDM Evolution Trophy, the Staggies and the talismanic Brian Graham will feel confident of another victory.
Alloa Athletic vs Hamilton Academical – While Ross County have gained so many plaudits for their near-perfect results, Hamilton Accies have quietly gone about their business in a similar manner, and sit level on points at the top of the table. Alloa will prove a tough task, however, and with highly rated Rangers loanee Kyle Glasgow, they will offer a real threat to Darian MacKinnon’s backline.
Completing the afternoon is the clash between Cove Rangers and East Fife, which will see Dick Campbell’s Fifers attempt to move away from their bottom-placed opponents, while supporters of Queen of the South will hope their long journey north from Dumfries will bear fruit to take them above fellow mid-table opponents Peterhead.
