Distant drums of feet echo, as they beat in tune with heartbeats. Feet thump in rhytm to the beat of the rain, the tempo rises and so do the heartbeats. The rain plays its tune on heated skin.
Around the fire sat men and women; others danced around it.
Ola sat with his head in his hands, too anxious, preoccupied. The drums were distracting. Was this even necessary, he wondered again. Even before the thought formed, he knew the answer. Some traditions were never broken.
Feet echoed louder, closer. Heartbeats rise in unison as fevered chants go up to the sky.
In rhythmic tandem, feet gyrate to the drums, hips swirling, arms swaying, outstretched to the sky. The earth cowers in fear as the frenzy of the dancers thunders on its back. Reaching a crescendo in tandem with the sweet cry of life brought forth.
