On Friday 23 January, Glasgow and the rest of the UK were hit by Storm Éowyn. The Met Office labelled it one of the strongest storms to hit the UK in 10 years and issued a red weather warning for wind across the central belt of Scotland.
Those in red weather warning areas received alarming phone alerts from the government urging them to stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel.
Widespread disruption was caused by the storm with public transport being cancelled on Friday and most trains remaining off on Saturday in the surrounding Glasgow area. The impact of the storm caused chaos for many with fallen trees, debris being blown from buildings and roads, and power outages.
Among the businesses that must reconcile with the devastation caused by Storm Éowyn is Roasters, a coffee shop in Paisley that witnessed the front wall of the coffee shop torn off.
The cafe is run by close friends Jack Reid and Dan Smith, who have been friends for eight years. The pair took to social media to show the damage to the shop caused by the storm’s 90mph gales – the whole front wall of the building was blown away, leaving the shop in need of drastic repair.
Dan took to social media to explain that he stayed in the cafe overnight on Friday due to the destruction of the front wall of the building.
The cafe has risen in popularity since its opening in 2022, boasting a large social media following with 20K followers on Instagram and over 127.8K likes on TikTok.
Roasters took to social media last Friday to announce the café reopening to the public after rigorous work to repair damage caused by the storm.
