When life is hectic, the last thing you want to be doing is hitting the gym or dragging yourself out of the house to go for a jog (especially at this time of year with the freezing weather). It takes a lot of effort to fit in exercise when you’re studying and/or working full time. It can be so strenuous trying to juggle work, education, a social life and keeping yourself healthy both physically and mentally. Even thinking about it is tiring! However, I have a few tips to help you fit it all in, without it being such a task. Let’s tick off a few boxes all at once.
Why not combine your social life & your fitness time together? Ask a friend if they’re up for a gym session, a Zumba class or perhaps just a nice long walk for a change. It’s a great way to catch up and make your exercise time go in quickly; it’s a win-win! Another thing I find extremely helpful that motivates me to get my ass to the gym after a long, hard day at university is actually wearing my gym gear to uni (another win-win because fitness wear is super comfy). It makes it so much easier to motivate yourself to go: you’re already in your gym gear, you’re out and about, there’s no hassle of getting changed. (You’re welcome). Another thing that helps is writing it down in your diary or in the form of a to-do-list. If you’re anything like me, you’ll need to go because you’ll just have to cross that task off your list and get the satisfaction of doing so, it’ll drive you mad if you don’t. Set yourself a daily step target, everyone in this day and age has a phone that tracks your step count, try to challenge yourself by doing that little bit more every day. Some people even do step challenges to raise money for charity as an incentive? There’s so much you can do to keep active without it being a burden in your life – these are just a handful.
