July 19th, 2026 – King Tut’s
For most people, a Sunday is usually a pretty mundane day; winding down from the blissful weekend, begrudgingly accepting the start of the hectic working week. However, in King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut last Sunday, the atmosphere was anything but boring when Late Night Getaway Drivers stepped up to the stage to deliver their electrifying set.
Late Night Getaway Drivers are an alternative/indie band of five, originating in Ayr and quickly making their way into the spotlight of the Scottish music scene.
Despite the Scottish weather being an unusual 18°C, and the football steering people away from any gig that night, Late Night Getaway Drivers did not seem fazed. They packed the small venue with vivacious energy, amping up the audience for the bands to come.

Their set was made up of covers, as well as their own songs, such as their debut single Heard It on the Radio, and their upcoming single Want to Know. Both are bodacious tunes, in which the band’s musical inspirations can be heard. Heard It on the Radio is my personal favourite, a catchy track which really gets your head bobbing along. The band’s drummer, Ross, who was as solid as a metronome, really sells every song, making the group’s more recent sets evermore sublime.
The lead singer, Conor, delivers every song with untamed energy, making the gig visually stimulating throughout as well as appealing to the ears. He performed a powerful rendition of A Hero’s Death by Fontaines D.C., and his distinct vocals offer a unique touch to the band’s new single.
Despite not being the lead singer, guitarist Chloe proved to be the best voice of the five, particularly in the cover of Le Tigre’s Deceptacon. I imagine vocals so high-pitched are difficult to cover confidently, yet the only lady from the quintet pulls it off remarkably. Her talents on guitar further made Chloe a standout performer, though both Aaron (guitar) and Will (bass) were equally as stellar.

Will’s stage presence may be more subtle than the others, but not enough to go unnoticed. His bass skills are a key component of each song, and all would be incomplete without his mastery. The same can be said for Aaron, who also performs some impressive vocals and plays guitar with palpable enthusiasm and dexterity. He also maintains the coolest look of the band with his favourite accessory: sunglasses.
