As we now embark on the second half of the year, the spooky season fast approaches and the dark nights are not far off, the faint sounds of Christmas music begin to rise into a crescendo, and we realise what a blur this year has been.
However, that means that we should take stock. Reflect on what we’ve done this year… and what’s been hitting the shelves with gusto! So prepare yourself for Erin’s hottest Summer releases and reads of 2026.
Heartstopper Vol 6 – Alice Oseman – The conclusion to the decade-long graphic novel series. Perfect for those just entering university, Heartstopper Vol 6 captures the difficulties of growing up and leaving for uni, trying to maintain friendships and relationships.
Raveheart – Graeme Armstrong – Set in Coatbridge’s Time Capsule Ice Rink, this book is truly one of a kind. DJ Turbo is struggling, and when ‘The New Greatest British Party’ come into power and ban raving, well, let’s just say they have a fight on their hands. It’s clever and well-timed considering today’s climate.
Land – Maggie O’Farrell – From the writer of Hamnet comes this sweeping historical novel. Set in 1860s Ireland during the mapping of Ireland. A father and son working together, a period of history that is often overlooked. It’s heartwrenching – and a necessary read. O Farell once again, shows her mastery with this novel.
Odyssey – Ok, although Homer composed this over 2,500 years ago, it’s received a resurgence in popularity thanks to Christopher Nolan’s new release this summer. Emily Wilson’s translation is what is said to have inspired Nolan during his film-making process- it’s well structured, well translated and accessible.
May We Feed The King – Rebecca Perry – A stunning debut following the lives of a forgotten king and the curator that seeks to uncover and share his life. Intrigue and human psyche finds itself easily paired in this novel; it has also now been selected for the Booker Longlist, so if that doesn’t convince you then I’m not sure what will!
