Glasgow Takes Part in Global Day of Climate Action During COP30

Thousands gathered to march in Glasgow as part of a coordinated Global Day of Climate Action on 15 November 2025. The march, titled “A Better World Is Possible,” was held while world leaders meet during the United Nations climate talks at COP30 in Brazil, taking place 10 years after the Paris climate agreement, where countries pledged to try and restrict the rise in global temperatures to 1.5°C. However, a recent report from the UN Environment Programme reveals that overshooting the targeted temperature is “very likely within the next decade.”

Britain’s PM, Keir Starmer, and Head of EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, are attending the talks, while China’s President Xi and US President Donald Trump are absent, despite their countries being the two biggest emitters of planet-warming gases.

Key issues such as fossil fuels, funding and tropical forests will be discussed during the talks in Brazil. On Tuesday, 11 November, dozens of indigenous protestors forced their way into the venue, demanding access to the climate talks, resulting in clashes with security forces and leaving multiple injured.

Sister protests have taken place around the world, including Berlin, Rome, Turin, and Glasgow. Friends of the Earth Scotland, the organiser of the march, claimed it was the biggest climate march in Glasgow since 2021, when COP26 was held.
