‘Essence’: Glasgow Charity Fashion Show unveils its 2025 theme

Glasgow Charity Fashion Show has announced its 2025 show, ‘Essence’, in partnership with Selective Personnel.

Founded in 2014, the Glasgow Charity Fashion Show (GCFS) is organised and produced by student volunteers from universities and colleges across the city. Its mission is to uplift local organisations, and since its inception the initiative has raised over £240,000 for charities such as Glasgow’s Golden Generation, Impact Arts, Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis, and Refuweegee. All proceeds from their current fundraiser will be donated to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland who provide support to young people with life-shortening conditions.

Speaking on the collaboration, a spokesperson from Children’s Hospices Across Scotland has said: “We are delighted to partner with GCFS, who keep community and joy at the heart of their organisation as well. GCFS will help us provide palliative care for children nearing end of life, as well as respite care, counselling, and, when the time comes, bereavement support for families.”

‘Essence’ will be held in Merchant City’s Old Fruitmarket on 1 March 2025, and is a celebration of Glasgow’s vibrant cultural scene. In addition to raising funds for a worthy cause, it hopes to foster a sense of community among creatives within the city. This year’s runway will showcase the work of local fashion students and up-and-coming designers, with past shows platforming the likes of Hairy Mary, Maison Charlemange, and Pure Barkin. The night will also be soundtracked by a range of local DJs and musical talents.

Inspired by Rene Margritte’s painting, ‘The Lovers’, ‘Essence’ hopes to explore the deeper core of our relationships with each other and ourselves. Speaking on this year’s theme, creative director Craig Strachan said: “It is an exploration of societal investment in individuals, identity, and behaviour – and how such investment shapes our perception. Essence seeks to undermine social constructs and what it means to be the ‘norm’.”
