The University of Strathclyde Students’ Association (USSA) Executive for academic year 2015/16 will be elected at an awards show on 13 March.
There are five full-time sabbatical positions available within USSA: President, Vice-President Education, Vice-President Diversity & Advocacy, Vice-President Activities and Development and Vice-President Sports and Wellbeing. There are also six part-time voluntary posts to be filled.
Gary Paterson, the current USSA president, is rerunning for the position alongside new candidate, Ryan Ross, a third year chemical engineering student.
Paterson said: “We’ve had an amazing year, winning tens of thousands into funding and support, launching campaigns to improve students’ lives, and winning improvements to halls & our campus. But there’s still more to do.”
His proposed changes include participation grants to help fund student activities, creating a Study Abroad Fund and fighting against unpaid internships.
Ross said: “Having previously been elected as vice-chair of external engagement and having volunteered as a Strathguide I want to take a more influential role where I can improve the students’ union.”
This includes increasing employer engagement, getting more students involved in forums and campaigning for more grants.
The candidates for Vice President Sports & Wellbeing are Ann-Marie Kennerley and Nick Martin; Vice President Diversity is Nesaraj Jeyaraj and Michael O’Donnell is running for Vice President Education.
