Dance Music Column

(3) Dance Music Column

by Chester Cornford

This is the first instalment of a column I will be writing for the Strathclyde Telegraph all about dance music with a Glasgow focus. Whether that’s the best parties, festivals, tracks, mixes or dance music news, there will be something for everyone.

2015 is set to be an extremely exciting year for Scotland’s dance music scene. Sub Club have confirmed the opening of a new rooftop venue overlooking Buchannan Street on the 26th of March; the Red Bull Music Academy tour is coming to Glasgow; the Riverside Festival brings back another stellar line up at the Transport Museum; and Edinburgh’s scene is continuing to flourish with fresh new nights such as Lezure and Partial bringing you amazing bookings, such as Jeremy Underground and a Hessle Audio takeover, respectively. This column is going to bring you everything you need to make the most of what is on offer.

Another year and another no-show from RockNess. But fear not, the Sub Club SoundSystem, without a doubt the best stage at RockNess, will still be making a display this year. With a bank-holiday show on the 2nd and 3rd of May at the Barrowlands, the Sub Club SoundSystem will be  taking the RockNess spirit down to Glasgow for a weekend of big names. The Saturday will be that of SubCulture, bringing you a stellar line up with Bicep, Gerd Janson and Auntie Flo already announced. The guests will be joined by Harri & Domenic, everyone’s favourite resident DJs.

Sensu take control of the Sunday, and after a long stream of killer parties recently, they’ve only gone and outdone themselves. Playing on the Sunday will be the biblical J.E.S.u.S; the equal combination of Glasgow’s own Jackmaster, Eats Everything, Skream and Seth Troxler.

If you’re starting to plan your festivals for the summer, you need not look any further than Dumfries. Eden Festival takes place from the 11th to the 14th of June and is welcoming the likes of Grandmaster Flash and Ms. Dynamite to their Scottish paradise. Acts span across 9 stages providing an array of different sounds and atmospheres. Definitely the Scottish festival to be at this year. And don’t just take it from me, Becki Menzies, undergraduate student here at Strathclyde described it as “the best festival in the world,” and with remaining tickets starting at only £90, it doesn’t get much better than that.

You should attend: SUB ROSA PRESENTS BEN PEARCE On the 11th March, the Sub Rosa boys bring you a sexy and sensual show with the sleaziest cuts at the Sub Club with Ben Pearce touring as part of his Sex Tape series. 2nd-release tickets are £8, 3rd-release tickets are £10, and there will be 100 £10-tickets at the door.

You should buy: THE BURRELL CONNECTION – POLLOCK COUNTY CLASSICS EP The Burrell Connection, originating from Perth but now living in Glasgow, makes his debut EP release with Glasgow-based West End Communications. Old-school sound and truly rocking. 4/5 Out Now on West End Communications.} else {
