Charandeep Singh, The   University of Strathclyde Student’s Association  President has entered the running for the NUS Scotland Presidency. He will be taking on incumbent president Robin Parker when elections are held at the NUS Scotland Annual Conference on the 3rd and 4th of March.

Singh, who has spent two years on the student executive in the role of Vice President for Equality and Diversity and then Union President, feels that he can take what he has learned during his time at Strathclyde and use his skills on a national scale.

“ In my time at Strathclyde It’s been brilliant to learn about all the current issues affecting students locally and nationally; funding issues, student support, transport, housing everything that students are faced with. I’ve been a campaigning president here during my at Strathclyde I’ve always been the kind to understand what the most relevant issues are and then go out and campaign and win on them.”

The new job role would make Singh the figurehead of  NUS Scotland, an organisation with half a million members, making it one of the biggest campaigning organisations in country and a number of challenges lie ahead; from budget cuts to graduate unemployment and the forthcoming referendum on Scottish Independence. ”I believe in the collective power of NUS Scotland and the change we can deliver but we need to be more focussed, campaigning on the relevant issues affecting students in our country-I’ve done that here at Strathclyde and want to take that nationally.”
